YOUR BACKCOUNTRY EXPERIENCE IN THE GREAT BURN HELPS US LEARN MORE
WHY WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU
Crowdsourcing helps us report trail and facility conditions, backcountry violations and conflicts, and invasive species
OUR WHY
The Great Burn ecosystem is a massive area that is difficult to inventory effectively by a single organization. With that, crowdsourced phone apps and forms provide an ideal way for organizations like the Great Burn Conservation Alliance (GBCA) and our United States Forest Service (USFS) partners to understand issues in the field, allowing us to address current needs and prioritize work more effectively.
3 WAYS TO ENGAGE
REPORT CONDITIONS AND USE ON
THE RIMS APP
The Recreation Impact Monitoring System (RIMS) app, from the Colorado Mountain Club, provides a form to report trail and campsite conditions, track visitor use, and report rule violations within the backcountry.
You can use this app from deep within the Great Burn, so the GPS information is accurate. The GBCA and the USFS use the data to determine current needs and priorities and understand current use rates.
MAP INVASIVE SPECIES WITH
WILD SPOTTER
The Wild Spotter app is a GBCA partner focused on plant identification and tracking invasive species present in the backcountry.
This app provides an excellent forum for education-related plant identification while providing USFS and GBCA with location-based data related to invasive species. Wild Spotter is free to download and works without a WiFi connection.
TELL US DIRECTLY
If neither of these apps fits your needs, or you want the GBCA to address a potential issue directly, use our Direct Reporting Form. Use the Google Form to detail any issues, experiences, or general comments about your experience within the Great Burn.
We greatly appreciate any information you can provide to help us conserve and steward the Great Burn ecosystem. Once your form is submitted, expect to hear from a member of the Great Burn staff.
