In August, GBCA’s Integrated Trail Crew packed up for a hitch deep in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest to perform maintenance work on Weitas Creek Trail #20 in the Bighorn Weitas Inventoried Roadless Area. Stretching 29 miles, this trail is a true multi-use route—welcoming hikers, horseback riders, mountain bikers, and motorized uses like ATVs and UTVs. Over the course of the trip, the crew improved tread, dug out water bars, brushed back thick vegetation, and cleared 110 downed trees to keep the trail open and accessible for all who love exploring the Great Burn. This hitch was also a special one—it marked crew member Claire Ellefson’s final trip of the season. Scroll through the images below to see the hitch through her eyes.
