Senate Republicans Propose to Sell Over 3 Million Acres of Public Lands

Senate Republicans are pushing to sell over 3 million acres of public land currently managed by the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management, including lands in the Great Burn ecosystem in Idaho.

The map below shows the extent of the lands eligible to be sold, and includes nearly 100,000 miles of trails, and 3,405 river miles across the West. Especially disheartening is the inclusion of the entirety of the Idaho side of the Great Burn ecosystem.

Lands in the contiguous United States that will eligible for sale if the new bill passes. The proposal also aims to sell off large swaths of public land in Alaska.

The bill doesn’t just line up the sale of millions of acres of your public land, it would also:

  • Gut the integrity of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)—stripping communities and the public of the ability to weigh in on land management decisions.

  • Fast-track drilling, mining, and logging, including near national parks and beloved recreation areas.

  • Allow developers to bypass public input and robust environmental review by simply paying a fee.

  • Rescind billions of dollars in conservation funding that supports trail work, sustainable access, and climate resilience.
