National Public Lands Day

Join us for an riparian restoration planting project, an exciting opportunity to work alongside the Nez Perce Tribe and the Forest Service! For this National Public Lands Day, we will be giving back to our watersheds that give so much to us. Throughout the day, expect to learn more about various watershed health and restoration initiatives in the Nez-Clear, and what we can do to keep our rivers and streams healthy. Please stay tuned as we work with the Tribe to pick the best location for this event based upon conditions and access in the field.

Location: TBD. This project will be held in the Lochsa-Powell Ranger District between 30 and 90 minutes from Powell, ID.

Closest Town: Powell, ID

difficulty

Hiking

Easy. We won’t be covering many miles during the day, but may be working in some uneven terrain during the planting project.

Work

Moderate. We will be planting grasses and/or trees, so be prepared to get your hands dirty and possibly your feet wet!

itinerary

We will meet at the designated project site at 0900MT. After a project and safety briefing, we will begin our planting! Make sure to ask many questions throughout the day, as the staff attending love to talk about what they do. We’ll wrap up work in the afternoon and have everyone on the road by 1700MT.

Great Burn Conservation Alliance trips are free. Each volunteer will be required to make a 100% refundable deposit to secure a trip spot. The cost of the deposit is $10, which will be returned if you cancel at least 3 weeks before your scheduled trip or once you attend the trip. A lot of planning goes into these trips and we need to make sure you’re committed! If you are unable to make a deposit, please reach out to volunteer@greatburn.org.
